Context
SpeakUp began with a real human problem: many people understand English, but hesitate when they need to speak it. The difficulty is not only grammar or pronunciation — it is confidence, timing, fear of mistakes, and the lack of a supportive guide in everyday practice. SpeakUp explores how a small wearable device and companion app could act as a personal English-speaking buddy, helping users practice, improve, and feel more confident when they communicate.
The Challenge
The challenge was to make English correction feel supportive, not embarrassing. A product that helps someone speak better must be careful with timing, tone, privacy, and emotion. SpeakUp needed to feel like a premium personal product, not a school tool, medical device, or judgmental grammar checker. The experience had to balance live support, gentle prompts, learning reports, and user control.
The Role
Daha shaped SpeakUp as a product concept across emotional positioning, hardware direction, learning experience, app ecosystem, and product storytelling. The role included defining the core user problem, framing the device as an English-speaking buddy, exploring the premium in-ear form language, and connecting the wearable experience with app-based feedback, progress tracking, and improvement data.
The Insight
The central insight is that language confidence grows through timely, personal feedback. People do not only need corrections after the conversation is over; they need a learning companion that can support practice, identify repeated mistakes, and show improvement over time. When feedback feels private, respectful, and well-timed, correction becomes encouragement instead of pressure.
The Strategy
The strategy is to present SpeakUp as a complete learning ecosystem rather than a standalone gadget. The wearable gives the product a physical, personal presence, while the app becomes the place for reports, improvement history, grammar patterns, pronunciation notes, and guided practice. The design language should feel premium, smooth, and proud to wear — using the softness of a speech bubble as a visual cue for communication and support.
The Execution
The concept is structured around a compact in-ear wearable paired with a mobile app. In practice or user-selected speaking modes, SpeakUp can listen for spoken English, identify possible grammar, pronunciation, or fluency issues, and provide support through live correction, gentle prompts, or post-session feedback. The app can summarize speaking patterns, show progress over time, and suggest areas for improvement. Future development could define the AI correction model, privacy controls, app interface, learning modes, hardware ergonomics, charging case, and real-world practice flows.

Outcome / Potential Impact
- SpeakUp is designed to demonstrate how AI, wearable hardware, and learning experience design could help people build spoken English confidence. Instead of treating correction as a mistake report, it reframes feedback as a private, supportive companion experience. Future development could explore prototype testing, language-model accuracy, accent sensitivity, privacy-first audio handling, teacher/coach modes, and personalized learning plans.
